Alwyn is an extra high voltage (EHV) Electrical Engineer with more than 17 years’ experience in delivering underground cable, overhead line and substation projects in the UK, Australasia and South Africa.

He is responsible for BakerHicks’ Power sector, leading our team of experts on some of the industry’s most challenging projects across the UK ranging from £50k to £1.2billion in value

He has a strong theoretical and practical approach and to date has overseen and delivered the design for over 60 multidisciplinary projects.  

As a qualified TP141 design verification engineer he is one of a selected few authorised to sign off high voltage cable systems for National Grid. Alwyn, a published author, is creative and innovative and has helped revolutionise the cable tunnel installation industry, being instrumental in developing a new mechanised cable installation methodology.

His notable projects include two of the largest installations in the UK; the 400kV cable installation for the Croydon cable tunnel in south London and the Woodhead cable tunnel through the Pennines. He also helped to develop the cable delivery strategy for the 400kV London Power Tunnels through central London for National Grid, 220kV NAaN cable tunnel in Auckland, New Zealand for Transpower. Alwyn is currently the overseeing the front end design of the Morecambe Bay cable tunnel project for National Grid, which is the largest transmission system upgrade since the original network was built.
